Paul Loftus former Bronte Wheeler is awarded an MBE

Paul Loftus a member of the Bronte Wheeler’s team, that won the Three Peaks Cyclo Cross  Team prize nine times between 1972 and 1981, has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s 90th Birthday Honours list for his services to cycling and charity. Paul helped to set up the Fred Whitton Challenge and organised the event for 16 years. The classic sportive was started in memory Whitton who died of cancer in 1998, he was Paul’s friend and clubmate in the Lakes Road Club. All the money from the event goes to Macmillan Cancer Care the Air Ambulance and Mountain Rescue, with Loftus helping to raise over £1 million.
