BRONTE WHEELERS/NEOPHIX KILDWICK 10TT

25th July  2018

By all accounts it was another beautiful evening for a time trial and despite the Colne Crits being run the same night the turn out for the Kildwick TT was very good – in fact it almost necessitated a second time keeper – John must have had to do a quick sprint to the finishing line to clock the first riders home!

It was good to see a couple of lady riders on the start line and a welcome to Liz,  I believe this was her first ride on this course and to any other first time riders.

There were nine clubs represented tonight, six of them with finishers in the top ten and the other 3 clubs having riders with PB’s for the season.

Overall TT results:

Craig Moody, representing Giant Halifax was fastest rider in a time of 21:07 – just 4 seconds shy of his winning time last week which was also his first ride on this course.    Another Giant Halifax rider, Levi Moody came second with a time of 22:22 on his first ride on this course so well done to him.   Third spot was taken by Bronte’s Stephen Lloyd in 22:55 – 8 seconds faster than his last ride on this course but just 11 seconds shy of beating his best this season.    Excellent rides from all three on the podium.

Vets results:

As well as being overall winner Craig took the honours in this category too with a fine +5:43 on standard.  A very worthy second place was filled by Nina Benson with a +4:16 on standard and a PB for the season to boot!  Third Vet was Andrew Dent from Pendle Forest CC showing +3:56 on standard.  Congratulations to those riders.

Thanks go to John Wray for being the timekeeping wizard tonight – zipping from start line to finish line in double quick time.  To Terry Pickles marshalling and to Sandra, once again, pushing off.  Refreshments as always provided by John Driver and well received by all.

It’s the same venue next week, 1st August – please check Facebook for start time nearer to the event day.

The remaining events after that are as follows:

8th August Cracoe 7:00pm
9th August Granby Hillclimb 7:00pm

15th August Cracoe 7:00pm.

BRONTE WHEELERS/NEOPHIX KILDWICK 10TT

18th July  2018

It was a fabulous evening for the 20 riders who started  – nice temperature, no wind to speak of and fewer than normal vehicles on the road.  A pity that our timekeeper on the night missed what were excellent conditions for perhaps setting another PB!!  To add a bit of interest I have noted all those riders who this week achieved a PB on this course for 2018.  As you can see there are few exceptions (4 only) and those four who didn’t achieve a PB missed it by only a few seconds.  What a night it must have been!

Overall TT results:

Craig Moody, representing Giant Halifax was fastest rider in a time of 21:03 on what was perhaps his first ride on this course….correct me if I’m wrong Craig.  Well done, a good win.  In second spot was Chris Smedley, Nelson Wheelers, in 22:23 and third spot was taken by Bronte’s own Darren Caines in 22:34 – welcome back to the podium Darren.

Vets results:

Craig Moody topped that podium too with an excellent +5:47 on standard.  Second place went to Darren Caines with a +4:16 and third spot was taken by Chris Smedley with a +4:00

Thanks go again to Ernie marshalling at the top roundabout, Sandra for pushing off and tonight Steve L. taking on timing duties.  Bronte’s weekly ‘catering wagon’ was present again and so a big ‘thank you’ to John for providing refreshments;  not only providing refreshments but gaining a PB for the course as well!

Same time and place next week………

BRONTE WHEELERS/NEOPHIX KILDWICK 10TT

11th July  2018

What a terrific turn out of riders this week with half the field representing host club Bronte Wheeler.

By all accounts it was a hot and humid night with the wind in no predominant direction!  Despite the ‘thick’ atmosphere there were some excellent times.  As a comparison I’ve put riders fastest times this year so far, on this course.

Steve Ayres, Bronte Wheelers, had the fastest time coming in at 20:25.  Paul Braithwaite, Pendle Forest CC, took second spot with 21:00 and in third equal place were Chris Smedley, Nelson Wheelers and Bronte’s Ben Cook in the time of 22:55.  Excellent rides from those 4 riders taking podium places on this occasion.

In the Vets category Paul Braithwaite was the runaway victor with a +5:09 on standard.  Second Vet was Chris Yates, Otley CC, with +3:55and in third place Nina Benson, Ilkley CC with +3:52.

Nina was also first lady home, with Gaynor Greaves in second spot after her gutsy ride in which she took 52 seconds of her previous Kildwick time.    Well done to all riders.

One wonders if all the energy directed into this TT by the riders on this night had been directed to the stadium in Russia to help out our England footballing friends in their match against Croatia – would it have helped? ….just a thought….but when we look back on these results in years to come we’ll remember the World Cup of 2018!!

Thanks once again to John Wray for timekeeping, Sandra Corcoran for pushing off, Ernie for marshalling  and to John D. for his culinary/catering skills providing cake and cool drinks.

Burnsall 23TT Results 03-07

BRONTE WHEELERS/NEOPHIX 23TT

Grassington Rd/Burnsall 7.00PM   3rd July 2018

It’s amazing what a tough course and the World Cup football can do to a rider’s enthusiasm for a time trial!  Only eight riders tonight on the Burnsall circuit but as we have come to expect, there were some excellent times and even a + on the age standard in the Vet’s category for one of the riders.  It’s pretty obvious that the standard allowance in no way reflects the difficulty of this course so for anyone to beat their allowance or even get near to it, is quite an achievement.

From various comments on social media it would appear that the wind was friend to no one and quite strong in places so it wasn’t a surprise that one or two riders didn’t quite achieve a time as good as last year.  Having said that – 2 riders did do better than last year, they being Nina Benson and Ben Cook so well done to both.

So, final placings as follows:

Steve Ayres, Bronte Wheelers, had the fastest time in 57:38, down one minute and 19 seconds on last year’s time but still averaging almost 24 mph (38.5kph) on this course.  In second place Paul Braithwaite, Pendle Forest CC, in 58:46 which was a minute and 8 seconds shy of Steve’s time and in third place Ben Cook, Bronte Wheelers with a 1:02:02 a full minute and 16 seconds faster than last year, well done Ben.

In the Vets category Paul Braithwaite was a clear winner going +2:13 better than his age standard – and as previously stated, on this course that is no mean achievement. Nina Benson, Ilkley CC, who was first (and only) lady tonight, snatched second place by a mere 6 seconds with her -0:23 on standard. Nina also beat her time from last year by a great 2 minutes and 6 seconds.  Third place in the Vets was Ben Cook with -0:29 on standard.

Thanks go to John Wray for timing and to John Driver for once again providing refreshments which after tonight’s ride must have been greatly appreciated – there would certainly have been plenty of calories burnt on that course!

BRONTE WHEELERS/NEOPHIX 10TT

Kildwick 10 mile 27th June 2018

It is interesting to note the huge difference in conditions this year as opposed to those at the end of June last year when officials had to cancel the event owing to the torrential rain causing dangerous conditions.

This year the sun shone and it was very warm indeed.  A slight tail wind out and slight headwind home didn’t seem to prevent some excellent times with, what I believe to be, a few PB’s appearing.   I have best times for a number of the riders from last year (but no years prior to that at hand) and these I have included in the last column which, assuming that last year’s time was already a PB then 7 riders did indeed have a PB tonight.

Steve Ayres of Bronte Wheelers took first place with a 20:19 – two seconds faster than his best ride last year and possibly a PB for him on this course?  In second place was Paul Braithwaite , Pendle Forest CC, in 20:42 taking 48 seconds of his time last year and in third place Alex Ridehalgh, Spokes RT finished in 21:54

Pendle Forest CC riders were well represented tonight and filled the podium in the Vets category.  Paul Braithwaite top spot with a +5:27 on standard, second place to Martin Welsh with +4:29 and Andrew Dent filling that third spot on the podium with a +4:17 on standard.

It was good to see such a good turn out of riders and to see such good representation from our neighbours over the border.   Thank you to all riders for supporting the event and staying safe.

Many thanks to John for time keeping, to Sandra for pushing off duties, to Ian at Cononley Road ends, Ernie at the top roundabout and to John Driver for providing cold (COLD – is this a first?) drinks! …..and delicious cake.

REMEMBER THAT NEXT WEEK THE TIME TRIAL IS THE 23 MILE ON TUESDAY……see Facebook for details.

10 MILE KILDWICK

20TH JUNE 2018

It was a grand turn out of 23 riders for the first Kildwick 10 of the season.  For the riders who have been battling the Cracoe circuit for the past few weeks it could have been a welcome change but the headwind on the outward journey must have made conditions into that first corner rather testing.   However, with the prospect of a roaring tail wind on the return journey, then pushing through the agony on the outward would have been worth it!

Old course records have been falling this year – not only has a new record for the Cracoe course been set but now Kildwick too has a new record:

A stunning ride from Team Wiggins’ Rob Scott this week took 9 seconds off the previous record set in 2016 by Steve Irwin.  Rob finished in a time of 19:11 meaning he had a speed average of 31.2771 mph  (50.3356kph).  A great ride and congratulations to Rob on both the win and the new record.  Not far behind was Bronte’s Steve Ayres in a time of 20:33 – just 12 seconds shy of his best time last year; in third place was Paul Braithwaite in 21:54.

Paul Braithwaite, Pendle Forest CC, also took first spot in the Vets category with a +4:38 on age standard,  in second spot in the Vets was Nina Benson, Ilkley CC who was also first lady home in a time of 24:54 and a +3:40 on age standard.  Third placed Vet was Ben Cook, Bronte Wheelers, who rode a 23:18  with a +3:05 on standard.

Well done to all on the podium and to all riders – there were some excellent times tonight.

Thanks to Joe Greaves for doing the timing, Sandra for pushing off, Ernie and Terry at the top roundabout, Raymond at the middle roundabout (also with camera) and Eamonn with his camera at the top roundabout.  Thanks once again to John Driver for tea and cakes.

It’s a 7.30 start next week at Kildwick

25 MILE CATTLE CROSSING TT – STIRTON

13TH JUNE 2018

It was a rather windy night for the 25 but 11 intrepid riders set out to try to beat their previous times or to set a standard for future attempts on the course.

Although the course record didn’t fall tonight the time set by Ryan Perry was a splendid 53:52 earning him top spot on the podium.  Close behind to take second spot was Bronte rider Steve Ayres in 55:08 and another Bronte rider, Ben Cook took third place in 1:01:29.

In the Vets category Nina Benson, Ilkley CC,  took the honours having a terrific +6:18 on age standard,  also taking the prize for first (and only) lady.  Second in Vets was Ben Cook with his +5:34 and in third spot Steve Lloyd with a +4:39.

Congratulations to all those riders and it was great to see so many Bronte riders featuring in the placings.

Our President obviously takes his catering duties seriously as he cut his ride short and provided some well-deserved refreshments for the riders who did the longer course!

Thanks to John, our intrepid time keeper and perhaps to Eamonn too who may have been spotted out on the course to get some photos.

It’s Kildwick next week – 7.30 start at the usual spot.
